Press Release - 11th Dec 2007 - MS Delegation to Deliver the BioInitiative Report to Gordon Brown
- Details
- Parent Category: Media
A delegation will be handing a copy of the BioInitiative[1] report to 10 Downing Street at 1pm on the 12th December 2007. The delegation will be headed by Mast Sanity Trustee Yasmin Skelt.
(The BioInitiative Report - A Review of 2000 Studies -
Concluded that Public Exposure Guidelines for Emissions from Mobile Phone
Masts, Wi-fi and Other Mobile/Wireless Devices are way too High to Protect
Public Health)
Mast Sanity Trustee Yasmin Skelt says "Public health expert and co-editor of the Report Dr. David Carpenter has said "We need to educate people and our decision makers that "business as usual" is unacceptable." We are here to do that officially today. We call on Gordon Brown to act on the information in this report. There are now plausible mechanisms for why microwaves cause illness at levels way below the current microwave radiation (ICNIRP) guidelines[2] which only cover heating effects."
"The evidence is mounting up. Cancer clusters have been noted around several Mobile Phone Masts[3]. However it is not not just cancer we are concerned about - there is a very large range of illnesses and other adverse health effects that are linked to mobile phone technology."
"The Swedish and German authorities have put the health of their nations ahead of profits for mobile phone companies - they are issuing warnings to reduce exposure. Also the Mayor of Paris agreed this week to remove Wi-fi from libraries in Paris[4] as dozens of staff suffered adverse effects from headaches to nausea. For a start, Wi-fi in schools, libraries and hospitals in the UK should be switched over to cables as soon as possible."
"It is high time that the Prime Minister realised that our bodies are being harmed by the vast amount of microwave radiation constantly being pumped into the environment. Our bodies and our brains are in a delicate balance and need to be protected[5]."
"Gordon Brown should instruct the Chief
Medical Officer and the Health Protection Agency to issue warnings to the
public and ensure that public exposure limits are reduced immediately."
Theoretical Essay on Electro-Sensitivity By Barrie Trower
- Details
- Parent Category: Health
The Safe Wireless Initiative recently published a questionnaire (www.safewireless.org, 11.1.07 [see here ] ) of some 32 possible mental and physical conditions associated with electro-sensitivity.
Ten years ago, I was investigating this phenomenon and decided to work backwards. I looked at all of these signs/symptoms and traced them back to a common place of origin (Flow charts are enclosed [see below]).
One origin linking all of these ailments appears to be the hippocampus (which is also linked to the amygdalae and hypothalamus). Prof Rolf Dermietzel, Head of Neuroanatomy at the Ruhr University of Bochum, Germany, has published research ‘The Electrical Brain' (Scientific American Mind, 2 November 2006, p57)[i], showing a positive direct electrical current in our brains, which controls all other chemical currents. This current operates at the hippocampus.
By the laws of physics, any positive charge(s) moving within a moving magnetic/electric filed will experience a force (usually sideways - Fleming's left/right hand rules).
If this force is enough to disrupt the motion of this positive direct current, just a dozen protons thick, it could easily account for the knock-on effect of so many mental and physical complaints. Theoretically, this is possible but needs the experimentation from a neuroscientist in a laboratory.
The big question is: Why do some people (electrosensitives) complain of symptoms almost immediately, whilst others may take months or years?
I am leaving aside here the direct effect of electromagnetic radiation on all of the cells in the body, simultaneously changing cell potential, signal transduction, cell cycle timing, causing interference to the ATP double bond at the mitochondrial DNA sites, and I am concentrating on the brain, although eventually each will complement the other, in terms of symptoms.
It is known that electrical currents are generated within the brain by the action of electromagnetic waves causing atomic vibration(s) within calcite crystals.
Whilst all crystals follow the same atomic structure, they can vary enormously in size. Hence a current can also vary from different size crystals.
My hypothesis is that electrosensitivity sufferers share a common crystal size. This may also be genetic; it is known that mothers and daughters can share electrosensitvity.
An added complication to this scenario would be the feed-back loop of the hippocampus' granule cells - mossy fibres - inhibiting basket cells exceeding their critical charge, hence the hippocampus receives an abnormal charge and passes its working threshold.
N.B. I have read this research but cannot find the name of its author to reference him/her.
I have also enclosed a simple mathematics paper [see below] which I presented to mathematicians, showing how electromagnetic waves can interfere both, with generating opposing currents and inhibiting the ionic movement of protons, the normal status of our electrical functioning brains.
It will be apparent at one stage that constructive interference is required, but with many mobile companies all using the same airwaves, this does seem feasible.
Finally, I would also postulate that the ‘atomically heavy' pulses from these carrier microwaves cause resonance by the interference to the ‘wobbly' spin of the Carbon 13, Hydrogen and Phosphorus atoms. As each atom is ‘nudged' it will right itself, releasing the energy causing it to move involuntarily. This rhythmic process will exacerbate an already unbearable state of electrical confusion in the brain.
If this essay is correct, electro-sensitivity will be almost (if not) instant. Untreatable.
My flow chart links all of the 32 reported illnesses listed by the Safe Wireless Initiative to this mechanism.

Autism / Wireless Radiation Scientific Study
- Details
- Parent Category: Home
The study "Wireless Radiation in the Etiology and Treatment of Autism: Clinical Observations and Mechanisms" has just been published in Australia. The full text is here .
Mast Sanity say:
"Looking at the statistics showing the increase in autism over the last decade to a now 1 in every 100 children, there must be a reason for this.
There are many research papers linking mercury in vaccines or mercury from mother's fillings with autism in children. This latest paper is linking the increase in microwave radiation indicating a possible synergistic effect. There have been other papers making this link.
It is alarming when one thinks of children's exposure if their parents have WiFI or a cordless phone in the house or if a school has a WiFi system or is near a phone mast. People don't realise that WiFi and cordless phones act like mini masts emitting radiation constantly whether or not in use. This autism epidemic is not a coincidence. There is a reason for everything. Its a basic rule of physics."

This study was covered in some editions of the Sunday Express on 18th November 2007. It is not online. We wonder why.
Electro-Sensitivity Health Survey
- Details
- Parent Category: Home
We have been asked by Safe Wireless Initiative - UK (SWI UK) to make this Electro-Sensitivity (ES) Health Survey available on our web site.
It is intended for Electro-Sensitive (ES) and Electro-Hyper-Sensitive (EHS) sufferers and anybody who is interested in the ES debate.
Please note that the current collection of UK data is to be returned for analysis, by 30th November 2007.
The ES Health Survey can be downloaded from here .
The accompanying SWI statement is as follows:-
"As part of our ongoing program addressing Electro-Sensitivity (ES) and other Electro-Magnetic Radiation (EMR) related symptoms, we are conducting a prevalence study in the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands, and Ireland Our main purpose is to derive accurate estimates of the magnitude of this problem. during the month of November.
It would be a great help to us if you would assist by distributing this survey instrument, attached as a .PDF file , among your contact network.
For persons who believe they are experiencing ES symptoms, we are distributing three copies of the survey instrument – one for them to fill out, and two for them to distribute to two other associates who they believe are not affected by electro-magnetic radiation.
For persons in the general public who are not familiar with ES or EMR related symptoms or who believe they are not affected, we are simply distributing as many copies as is practicable.
We are asking participants to mail the completed surveys to our UK postal address, by November 30.

Press Release 12th October 2007 - HPA Wi-fi 'Research' Smokescreen
- Details
- Parent Category: Media
Mast Sanity welcome the announcement from the UK's Health Protection Agency (HPA) that more research is to be done into Wi-Fi. However the tone of the Press Release[1] and its timing at the end of a Conference promoting devices which mainly use Wi-fi for School use[5] suggests that this is merely a smokescreen to appear to be doing something without actually doing anything new. It also appears to fall well short of Sir William Stewart's recent request for an enquiry into Wi-Fi in schools.[2]
(See also Powerwatch's "HPA announce entirely pointless WiFi study" here )
Mast Sanity ask:
1) What is this 'research' going to be about?
Are the HPA only taking measurements of Wi-fi signal levels (as they state in their press release)? Or are they going to look to see if there are any health effects on children in schools by taking blood samples, measuring heart rates and brain response (EEG's) and doing health surveys?
We already know what the levels emitted from the Wi-fi laptops and routers are. OFCOM (one of the HPA's 'partner' Agencies) has already taken measurements in schools.[11]
Powerwatch have already done this[8] as have various campaign groups. It is no mystery.
Mast Sanity spokesperson Yasmin Skelt says "Surely the HPA aren't saying that we have had a situation in the UK where we have had Wi-fi in some schools for years and yet the HPA and hence the UK Government have had no idea of the radiation levels? That beggars belief. This is precisely why we have been calling on Wi-fi to be turned off and removed from schools."
2) The HPA are still going to compare the levels with the outdated ICNIRP guidelines.
We know that the ICNIRP guidelines only protect against short term heating effects and are not appropriate to protect against cancer and genetic damage over the long-term. This was highlighted in the recent Bioinitiative Report[3].
Sir William Stewart also said the World Health Organisation (WHO) are wrong in their evaluation of the science behind the guidelines[5] and the Stewart report[4] said that relying solely on the guidelines will not protect people from biological (non-heating) effects that may become apparent.
Mast Sanity spokesperson Yasmin Skelt says "Independent Scientific studies have consistently shown health effects from microwave emissions well below currently allowed levels[3,6,7] - so what is the point of comparing emissions against these outdated ICNIRP guidelines?"
3) There is the 'Main Beam' (highest emissions) issue.
The Department of Education guidelines state that a school should not be in the main beam of a Mobile Phone Mast.[4]
The microwave radiation intensity in a classroom with Wi-fi is the same order of magnitude as if the schools were in the main beam of a mobile phone mast.[2]
Mast Sanity spokesperson Yasmin Skelt says "The current Department of Education guidelines say that children shouldn't be in an area of high microwave emissions - So why are they putting more Wi-fi devices in schools? Especially if the Health Protection Agency have no idea of the radiation levels - it is scandalous. The HPA announcement appears to be just a smokescreen!"
4) The German government is already advising its citizens to use wired internet connections instead of Wi-Fi, and landlines instead of mobile phones[9]. Why isn't the HPA doing the same?
Also the Executive Director of the EU's European Environment Agency said last month that, “it would be prudent for health authorities to recommend actions to reduce exposures, especially to vulnerable groups, such as children.” The Agency called for immediate action to reduce exposure to radiation from Wi-Fi, mobile phones and their masts. It suggests that delay could lead to a health crisis similar to those caused by asbestos and smoking[10].
Mast Sanity spokesperson Yasmin Skelt says "Again, why is the HPA happy to increase Wi-fi use in schools when it says it knows little about its health effects - in effect our children are guinea pigs for its own research."

Press Release 8th October 2007 - Hand Held Learning Conference 2007
- Details
- Parent Category: Media
Mast Sanity will be trying to correct the imbalance in information made available to the conference delegates at Central Hall, Westminster on Wednesday 10th to Friday 12th October. [5]
< Read About Hand Held Learning 2007 here >
< Read Mast Sanity's Diary at Hand Held Learning 2007 here >
This conference has been called to promote the use of 'handheld' gadgets in the classroom - the majority of which are 'wireless'.
Just as with other wireless/mobile gadgets (mobile phones, masts, and Wi-fi, etc) these handheld gadgets also use microwave technology, emitting microwave radiation all the time that they are being used and, indeed, to an extent whilst they are not being actively used too.
The organisers have called in Dr Repacholi to tell the delegates that continued use and promotion of Wi-fi and other hand held microwave radiation emitting devices are safe for children.[5]
We need to set the record straight
-
Wi-fi has never been pre-market safety tested, nor were mobile phones or other wireless devices.
-
Independent Scientific studies have consistently shown health effects from microwave emissions well below currently allowed levels[1,2,3,4]
-
Dr Repacholi worked for the World Health Organisation (WHO) EMF Project which received funds from industry.[6]
-
Dr George Carlo and Roger Coghill were not invited to speak, despite answering the conference’s call for papers in good time. Both scientists are well known for their opposition to devices using microwave technology, due to very clear health risks, shown in research and through studies
-
The Department of Education warns that children should only use mobiles in emergencies.[7]
-
Sir William Stewart reiterated that they (the Stewart Committee) had found evidence for genetic damage and cancer at exposures below the guidelines[8] and he is now calling for an enquiry into Wi-Fi in schools[8].
-
The Department of Education guidelines state that a school should not be in the main beam of a Mobile Phone Mast.[7]
-
Teachers in UK schools have already collapsed from exposure to Wi-fi[9]
Mast Sanity Spokesperson Yasmin Skelt says “Why then is it OK to put these devices in schools, exposure from which has been shown to be equal or more than that from the main beam from a Mobile Phone Mast?[8]”
“Mast Sanity is also writing to Conference's sponsors, including 'The Guardian' to ask them to honestly look at the research evidence and withdraw their sponsorship from this industry group who are promoting microwave emitting devices to children.”
“It is a disgrace that the Department for children, schools and families and BECTA are sponsoring this event especially when BECTA engineers testing this equipment developed headaches. That report was buried.[10]”
END.

Electromagnetic Pollution - Is There Evidence We Are At Risk?
- Details
- Parent Category: Information
More people are now aware that electromagnetic fields [EMF] can be detrimental to health, and for decades evidence has existed showing electromagnetic fields can damage all biological systems. The body containing two-thirds salty water is an excellent conductor of such fields. Across the airwaves electrical signals can create interference to other appliances, and likewise to our bodies finely tuned biological circuits, especially in the head area! We all exist within a vast smog of electromagnetic pollution growing more dense each day. Far more children and adults than previously recorded suffer a range of health problems including cancer and brain damage that can often be linked to electromagnetic pollution.

Joining The Dots - Mobile Phones may make us fatter, diabetic or depressed
- Details
- Parent Category: Health
An Australian report commissioned by the Australian Democrats party to be presented to the Australian Senate (the Australian Parliament) imminently indicates that Mobile Phones and Mobile Phone Masts may increase obesity, diabetes and depression.
Reported in the Australian Sunday Herald Sun journalist Lincoln Wright goes on to report that
"The phones [and masts] could also contribute to Alzheimer's disease, asthma, arthritis and memory loss, the report commissioned by the Australian Democrats found.
It said communities had not been warned about the dangers that higher radiation posed to human health.
The report, which relied on research from other studies, called for the Telecommunications Act to be amended to outlaw building mobile phone antennas near homes or schools"
