In the wake of the flawed decision by the UK Government and EU to ignore Electrosensitive people

and others who can not tolerate fluorescent bulbs and hence phase out traditional bulbs there are still alternatives available.

If you haven't stockpiled a lifetimes supply of traditional/classic/incandescent/GLS bulbs then all is not lost

as there are alternatives that use either more traditional bulb formats - such as halogen - or the

more expensive LEDs that will (hopefully) one day replace the hastily imposed mercury-containing and EMF-emitting CFLs.

Halogen Replacements for ‘Classic' Lightbulbs

These halogen bulbs - packaged in blue by Philips - are 30% more efficient than the bulbs being phased out but are otherwise indistinguishable from them.

The power ratings are as follow:-

18W halogen = 25W traditional equivalent (240 lumen)

28W halogen = 40W traditional equivalent (340 lumen)

42W halogen = 60W traditional equivalent (630 lumen)

53W halogen = 75W traditional equivalent (850 lumen)

70W halogen =100W traditional equivalent (1200 lumen)

105W halogen=150W traditional equivalent (2100 lumen)

140W halogen=200W traditional equivalent (2800 lumen)

(These are similar to the ‘classic' ‘GLS' ‘incandescent' bulbs are dimmable, are 30% more efficient than

the older bulbs and use halogen gas)

LED Replacements for ‘Classic' Lightbulbs

These LED bulbs are currently very expensive with the very dim 1W bulbs starting at £6 each - but suitable as nightlights.

The more usable 6W and 7W LED bulbs are now becoming available but are around £20+ each

Standard 25W -> 6W LED (240 lumen)

Standard 40W -> 7W LED (350 lumen)
